Ive only come across this theory in the internet and Scifi's Sightings program.I know the evidence that supports this theory involves sculptures and pyramids. Is that all? Ive read several articles such as National Geographic and Time regarding the migration of man to the Americas and there is only mention of Asia but recently Europe (as posted in another thread). Supposedly the sculptures have ties to west Africa but how are the pyramids explained? From what I know pyramids are found in Egypt.

1. Afrocentrists only focus on 2/3 heads that they deem to have "african features", there are 17 heads in all
2. There is no pyramids in west africa, which afrocentrists believe Olmecs are related to
3. The Olmececs existed for thousands of years before any afrocentrist can argue that "blacks were brought here" by spaniards and whatnot.
4. There were no ships or anything strong/big enough to bring thousands of "black olmecs" to the Americas, enough of a population to make such an impact on Mesoamerica.
5. They state that the 2/3 olmec heads they focus on have "cornrows", cornrows my ass, they were crowns for kings. It has been speculated the heads are ball players and it is their helmets but I lean more to the king explanation because they are more likely to build huge sculptures like that for a king, not a ball player.
I can go on.
The Black Olmec theory has been debunked in the book "The Olmecs".
Way before the Spanish or Columbus came here Africans and Olmec were frequent traders... Olmec use spears that of which came from Africa...
The Canary Current, which runs off the coast of Senegal and then turns into the Atlantic to the Caribbean, is strong enough to carry vessels from Africa to the Americas..
There is also evidence of pre-Columbian contact with Africans in a variety of settings in Mesoamerica. The African characteristics of Olmec sculptures, similarities between African pyramids and reed boats and their counterparts in Mesoamerica, and pictographic/linguistic similarities between Northern African and Native American cultures all offer evidence to support the idea of ancient contact..
When the indigenous peoples of the American Southeast first encountered those seeking refuge from the Spanish among themselves, they may have reflected upon their previous experiences with these voyagers from a distant land. They may have seen these people as being different from themselves, but they probably did not think about these differences in terms of "race."
along the coastal rim of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, early explorers encountered numerous African-Indians and tri-racial mixtures..
African traders from Guinea founded a colony near Mexico City from which they exerted a cultural and commercial influence extending north to Canada and south to Peru. He also suggested that indigenous cultures, including the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations, were strongly influenced through contact with African civilization..
Way before the Spanish came here Olmec, Natives, and Africans were mixing for some time..
The Pyramids are a direct reflection of the African influence on the so call Mexican Land....
Carlos... Dude... Do your Full Olmec history... Then Just look at a map...
Any way a dude name Carlos in Mexico at that time was consider the White man. (Spanish European) A native enemy..

LOL please, the Paleoindians of the Americas used the spears thousands of years before the Olmecs or Mayans arrived on the scene you fuckin liar.
African "trading", LOL.. There is no evidence of any african trading whatsoever in any history book I've read and this is my major.

Sure it is, but we're thinking thousands of years, did ANY people have such boats that could withstand such currents? No. Not even the Europeans have built their big ships yet....you think a lil canoe can handle an ocean current? you're dreaming.

There is none, but let's entertain that for a second.

Afrocentrists say that only Western African influenced the Olmecs and there is no Pyramids in Western africa, there is no sculptures or art in western africa, North and Eastern Africans are the only people who were advance, the rest were primitive.

Which pictographic is "related"? and which "linguistic" similarities are there? We went over the linguistic "similarities" with my professor and he is also a language professor, he said there is no similiarites at the basis of the languages and the only similarities are the sounds.
Well no shit?
That's like an alien race coming to earth and see the vehicles on the roads and say "All the cars are built by the the same company because they all have 4 tires and they have a motor too".

African indians? there is no africans, you can't even introduce that they were here in the first place, you're grasping for straws.

Again, afrocentrists believe they were influenced from west africa, no pyramids in west africa until you get to the eastern part of the continent.
