Re: Always Yours
My bad, I had serious writer's block and I've been a little distracted. Here's a longer post and I will write more for tomorrow.
I heard Joel talking to Lorenzo in the living room. He was very excited about what he was telling him. I finished making breakfast and called them to sit down. Joel came in first dragging Lorenzo in after him.
“you sit there”
Lorenzo sat down next to him and I served them breakfast. Lorenzo started to eat and Joel just picked at his food like always. He took a couple of bites and then he really started to eat.
“isn’t it good Daddy?”
I froze. Did he just say what I think he said?
“yeah, mijo. Your mom always makes the best food”
He looked at me, but I couldn’t respond. He looked back down and kept eating. Nobody said anything again until Joel was done eating.
“are you done daddy?”
“yeah mijo”
“mommy, can we go out and play?”
“umm…I think you should stay inside right now. Until we’re sure that your infection is gone”
“Okay, daddy let’s go to my room and I’ll show you all my toys”
“okay, but let’s clean our plates first”
“mommy does that”
“but it’s polite to help”
“okay”
They grabbed their plates and took them to the sink. Lorenzo whispered something in Joel’s ear and her nodded yes. He came over and gave me a hug.
“I love you mommy, thank you for breakfast”
“you’re welcome baby”
I kissed him and he ran off to the room. Lorenzo stayed behind.
“are you okay?”
“does he….?”
“yeah, he knows”
I didn’t say anything else. I just looked at him. He didn’t smile or say anything. Instead he sighed and went to Joel’s room. I wanted to stop him, we needed to talk. I knew that it wasn’t the right time though. I got distracted when the doorbell rang. I went and opened it.
“what are you doing here?”
“is he here?”
“yes”
“I want to see him”
“he’s playing with Joel”
“he does not need to be playing with him”
“Joel knows”
“what?”
“he knows that Lorenzo is his dad”
“You told him?”
“no, I think Lorenzo did”
“you think?”
I could tell that he was really pissed.
“I haven’t actually talked to him. I’m trying to focus on Joel and his ear infections”
“you should have called me”
“you were fucking Erica anyway, you wouldn’t have answered”
“I was not”
“yeah right. I saw you two at the party. You were fucking drunk and she was all over you”
He didn’t say anything then.
“where is he?”
“they’re in Joel’s room”
He started to go into the house and I pushed him back.
“this is not the time to start anything. Joel is with him and he doesn’t need to hear anything you have to say to Lorenzo”
“I NEED to talk to him”
“so do I, but not now”
“then when?”
“I don’t know, but it won’t be in front of Joel”
“fine, but his ass will be mine”
“leave Roberto”
He kissed my forehead and left. I sat down on the couch and shut my eyes. I couldn’t believe all this was happening.
“was that Roberto?”
I opened my eyes and saw Lorenzo leaning against the wall.
“yeah”
“I’m guessing he wants to have a chat”
“you know what he wants to do”
“nice to know that nothing’s changed”
“well, you know my brother”
“yeah”
We stared at each other, in silence. I wanted to get up and hug him. I wanted to feel his arms around me again, but I didn’t move. Joel came in and broke the silence.
“mommy, I don’t feel good again”
“what’s wrong baby?”
He came over to my side and snuggled into me. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his forehead. He was warm, but burning up like before.
“too much excitement for my baby”
“was tio here?”
“yeah he was, he had to go back home though”
“oh”
He yawned.
“let’s take your medicine and you’re going back to bed.”
“but I want to play with daddy some more”
“I’m not going anywhere mijo”
I picked up Joel and took him to his room. I gave him his medicine, kissed him and tucked him in.
“I want Daddy to tuck me in”
I got up and there was Lorenzo. He came in and hugged Joel, gave him a kiss, the sign of the cross and rubbed his tummy until his fell asleep.
