Re: Always Yours
Home. It’s strange, I’ve been gone for two years, but nothing’s changed. It’s the same as always. My is still small, but it’s humbling and warm. The grass was cut short and there was a bird bath in the front yard. It did look like it needed a new coat of paint. I was about to cross the street and go in, when a car pulled up. It was her, I watched her get out of the car.
“Still beautiful”
He was longer, but still dark and rich. Her body was as curvy as a I remember and still had that dark glowing tan. She moved around the other side of car and opened the door and leaned in. When she came back out she was carrying a small boy in her arms. She shut the door and went inside the house. I started up my car and drove off. I got my cell out and called Sleepy.
“hello”
“hey man”
“hey Lorenzo, what’s up?”
“I’m home”
“no way, serio?”
“yeah man, mind if I stop by?”
“naw man, get over here”
“alright, still at the same place”
“yeah”
“alright”
We hung up and I got to his place a little later. Sleepy has always been my best boy since we were little. We’ve always had each other’s backs. The only difference is that I chose to leave this life behind and try to better myself. I finally got to his house.
“hey man”
“Hey”
I shook his hand and gave him a hug. He looked different. I expected to see the same, skinny white boy. He was still a white boy, but he really filled out.
“Damn, what happened to you?”
“nothing man, just been hitting the gym”
“you look good”
“haha.. thanks. My girl thinks so too”
“oh really? Who you with?”
“her name is Lizbeth”
“nice. She cute?”
“yeah. Check her out”
He showed me a couple of pictures of them together. She was pretty, they looked good together.
“nice job man”
“I’m in love”
“that’s cool, does she know about your life?”
“I’m not in that anymore”
“serio?”
“yeah, I got out when you left. It wasn’t the same.”
“who took over?”
“Payaso”
Figures. I was about to sit down on the couch when a picture caught my eye. I went over to it and picked it up.
“she misses you”
“I’m sure”
“you don’t know how bad she was when you left”
“she seemed pretty happy to me”
“you saw her?”
“I stopped by the house and she got there. I guess she’s still living there”
“yeah”
I stared at the picture. It was like yesterday when we took that picture. Janine wanted us to take a picture at the water park. So I wrapped my arms around her waist from behind and put my head on her shoulder. We both were smiling, but before the flash hit, she turned and kissed my cheek.
“did you talk to her?”
“no, she was busy”
I set the picture down and turned away from it.
“do you talk to her?”
“yeah. Her and Lizbeth are pretty tight”
“I see”
“you should go talk to her”
I shook my head. I wasn’t ready to talk to her. I didn’t know when I would be.
