Default The "Best book I've read" Thread.. (Description too)

Mines was this one:
(Piri Thomas- Down these mean Streets)

Description:
A young colored (black skin) puerto rican guy growing up in the streets of harlem when the drugs were hitting hard in the ghetto. The main guy grew up in local street gangs, commiting crimes such as, robbing, assaulting, drug dealing, shooting at people and eventually he made it to prison doing some big time because he shot a cop who ended up in a comma. He writes about his ups and downs in the streets when he used to sleep on building rooftops, in the back of buildings, and when he used to sleep in the cold streets and his addiction to heroin and other drugs, the rise and death of his close fellow freinds who were like brothers to him and his life in prison. He nails it down on his hatred that he had towards the white people and how he had to struggle in that time period where white people would physically attack black people and since he was dark skin they counted him as one too. He also writes about his girl who at the time was supposed to be the one who he would marry but after he came out of prison he found out that she was already married to another guy. He also writes about the hatred his father had towards him because Piri was the only son who came out black yet his other brothers and siter came out light skin. This autobio-book is straight up the best I've read (I only read few autobiography books before though). I bought it on monday and didnt began reading it till tuesday and damn I couldn't put it down. I read it to the last page...

What's yours?

The last ook i read was a great one. It was called "Tortilla Flat" By John Steinbeck. A classic! It is a great book, you all should read it. it has some wierd world war two era stereotypes of mexicans, but it really is a great story.

I can't pick just one, but the book I just finished reading was Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marqeuz. Basically it's described as the ultimate love story. Young lovers forced by circumstances to live out their lives separately, and then 50+ years later they reunite and pick up where they left off. I thought it was really good.

DANG, THANKS FOR THE DESCRIPTION AND RECOMMENDATION. SOUNDS LIKE AN AWESOME READ. I'LL LOOK IT UP. MY FAVORITE IS AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A BROWN BUFFALO BY OSCAR ZETA ACOSTA. IT'S ABOUT THE CHICANO MOVEMENT OF THE 70'S AND HOW HE BECAME CONSCIOUSLY AWAKE BY IT. GREAT READ.
