I recently came across a book during my thesis research which caught me entirely off guard.
It dealt specifically with issues pertaining to "hybrid vigor" (mixing genes) apropos to interracial pairings.
***Because I can't post a URL, Google search "Breeding Between the Lines" to reference what I'm discussing here.
I've never felt that I was apart of the "latino/hispanic/chicano" community, and frankly, find solace in that. However, when I attempted to bring about discourse with people who consider themselves apart of this group, they seemed overtly offended and fought the theories Ziv mentions--that racially mixed children are, empirically, more symmetrical (attractive) and possess fewer genetic malformations--rude and untrue. Despite years of research and actual evidence to support his claims.
Given my own mixed "heritage", I often site my Caucasian side when asked about identity. For those who are adamant about "brown pride", would this offend you?
You are what you feel you are. There is no denying the FACT that your ethnic background does include "Caucasian". If you were raised up in what would be considered a "Caucasian Culture" for lack of better terms, then i guess I could not blame you.
My grandmother was actually part German so I too have a small percentage of Caucasian background. The deciding factor with me, however, is that I was not even remotely involved with yet alone KNOW any of that side of the family. All that I have ever known is the Mexican Culture so therefore i consider myself aligned with that side accordingly.
Judging by the appearance of my family, we're very mixed, mostly light skinned though. However, I don't let this make up my identity. As an example, I grew up in a mainly Anglo neighborhood. I played with Anglo kids and went to their houses. At school, in elementary school I played with the anglo kids as well. Therefore, I identified more with them then I did the children of Mexican descent. However, when I started middle school, I started to hang out with the kids of Mexican descent. Nothing was vastly different. We spoke English and never spoke Spanish. None of our friends were extremely "paisa" except one. I still live here, and work with mostly white people. In summation, I would tend to identify more with Anglo's then with Mexicans say.. from the next city over which is majority Mexican.
It offends me. Your a Mestizo. Half of you is Indio and half of you is Spanish (or some other type of European). But let me ask you a question, why do you site your white side better than your Indian side? Just answer that? What makes you so proud of your white heritage?

This sounds somewhat familiar to me, see my dad was born and raised in mexico and my mom is german/english and we grew up in an all white town, me having my brown skin i would get shit for it and always have to defend myself, witch i was proud to do. They didn't see the white in me, all they saw was my color, so i dissregard my white roots and I am proud to be brown. Kinda like what that one guy said, its all about perception
It's really up to you if you want to offend other people. If you are not in touch with your or do not have to much knowlede about your latin roots than why state what you don't know about? It doesn't matter what you really are but how you feel and you obviosly don't feel hispanic needless to say its a wonnderful feeling for us. Just keep in mind any stuggles your ancestors went through and if that doesn't give you a reason to get in touch with your hispanic roots than maybe you really are cacuasian pure at heart.
culture and race is too difrent things witch should but dont always go hand in hand
regardless of how ever the fuck you feel you are what you are
now culture that too is from the get go,but theres always fonies, you know?
raza es raza, we got our own thing Siendo mestizo
i cant overlook the fact that i got more towards my indigenous gente than the bull shit spaniards in spain you know
